Gold in India is quoted in Indian rupees and is usually bought by the gram, 10-gram, or tola — especially for jewelry, where 22K is the traditional choice.
The table below shows the live India gold rate by karat across these local weights, derived from the international spot price converted to rupees.
Gold is priced nationally, so the India rate shown above applies across all major cities — including:
Since 2021, BIS hallmarking is mandatory for gold jewelry in India, certifying purity with a six-digit HUID code. A 3% GST applies to gold, with making charges added on jewelry. Rates are commonly quoted per gram and per 10 grams, and 22K is the traditional jewelry standard.
Gold demand peaks around Akshaya Tritiya, Dhanteras, and the wedding season, when buying gold is considered auspicious. Many families purchase by the tola and treat jewelry as both adornment and a long-term store of family wealth.
24K is pure gold used for coins and bars, while 22K (about 91.6% pure) is harder and the standard for Indian jewelry.
A tola is a traditional South Asian unit of weight equal to about 11.66 grams, still widely used when buying gold.
Jewelers add making charges and GST on top of the base metal value, and rates can vary by city and purity.
The live gold rate in India is shown above in INR, with 24K, 22K, 21K and 18K prices per gram and local units, refreshed through the trading day.
It is the international spot price (US dollars per troy ounce) converted into INR at the live exchange rate, then divided by weight and adjusted for karat purity.
Two forces move it: the global gold price and the INR exchange rate. On top of that benchmark, jewelers add making charges and any local taxes or duties.
